Home is Where the Heart is: Part I Aug 13 Written By 7.11.15 | Home is Where the Heart is - Part I First stop, 20 Sutton Place to get a look at the building Dad lived in as a boy: that’s the one with the balcony with one more balcony reaching out above it. We saw a super stylish older lady with big, round, black-rimmed glam-glasses getting into a limo as we drove up - turned out that was Florence who lives there now. The doorman, William, took our info and called the next day to say she gave her best but was feeling too tired for visitors - well, turns out she is 94! We also walked across the block to the river to see the beautiful Queensboro bridge that I think Dad said he could see from the living room. Second stop, Dad’s childhood home in Essex Fells, NJ. It hasn’t changed much - that’s Dad’s old bedroom window, second floor right in the middle - at least until he moved over to the right side when Uncle Gord moved out. Last stop, we visited Grandma and Grandpa’s gravesite. That’s the headstone there at the top - classy and modest. I wish we got to spend more time with Grandma, she died way too young. artjournalCapturingMemoriesFamilyRootsHomeIsWhereTheHeartIsIllustration
