Great Ideas Going Nowhere

I’ll show you the language when it’s ready
but what if I told you that I was here first?
or that not one bit of you will be gone…

4 Stages of Grief in Haiku

These works began as a series of 4 haiku poems written during the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. I found the structured yet creative process of writing, cutting and layering concisely and rhythmically so healing as we tried to come to terms with social distancing, social media induced anxiety and social unrest; fear and anger, loneliness and despair and finally, a new kind of unnerving but potentially beautiful freedom.

Break

Why are you so mad?
I think it’s time to shut up -
Let’s stop making noise.

Lull

Why are you so sad?
Because it’s harder to cope
in a sleepless state.

Pause

Why are you so tired?
Did you labor too hard to
drown fears in your sweat?

Rest

Why are you so calm?
It’s the witching hour when brave
creatures leave their nests.
