toil we must in soil we trust
for the life giving strength
of all manner of dust -
We’ve been quarantined. Dad’s been experiencing some secondary symptoms & Tim was with him on Saturday. Doc thinks as likely as not its Covid, but patients are not getting tested in this area unless exhibiting extreme symptoms or at very high risk. So...we don’t know. Grrrrr.
The good news is we received our first beautiful order of meats from White Oak Pastures today and I found some faith in our ability to heal and restore what we’ve broken in the past. A generations owned, zero waste, organic regenerative farm committed to their animals from birth to the moment they are hand butchered in abattoirs designed by Temple Grandin, they were fully industrialized until reversing course in 1995. In 2016 they were recognized as one of 23 Global Savory Hubs. “Our cows graze the grass, the sheep and goats eat the weeds and shrubs, and the chickens peck at the grubs and insects. All species naturally fertilize the land, and our soil is again a living organic medium that teems with life.”
Please can we come out of this with a renewed faith and commitment to the ground beneath our feet?
