October 19-25  |  Raising Community

One year ago, on October 18th 2014, we went to help JollyV plaster the walls of The Shed. Outside was a beautiful stack of timbers originally culled from their property. Milled, cut and waiting to create the framework of their timber-frame home, I drew their intricate outline for my journal entry that day.

One year later, Tim, Aunt Karen, Dad and I joined 100 other friends and neighbors to build and/or bear witness to the joining of those timbers. As much a house raising as a strengthening of community ties, the frame has been built with trees that trail roots in the ground below and stands testament to a more meaningful definition of home.
